Mental health problems in childhood and adolescence in childhood and adolescence in the community of Madrid: before and after the pandemic. The debate generated about mental health, including that of children, is enormously positive in terms of destigmatizing the problem and promoting public action in this regard. However, we cannot forget that children living in poverty or at risk of social exclusion face a double penalty in terms of mental health. On the one hand, children and adolescents living in households with lower incomes or in a situation of unemployment have a higher incidence of mental health disorders. On the other hand, the most vulnerable children face greater obstacles in accessing quality specialized care, given the problems of access to the public system and the impossibility of defraying the costs of the private system.
